On Friday 15 May, the Tourist Information Centre in Fareham will celebrate its 25th anniversary. The Mayor of Fareham, Executive Leader, other dignitaries, invited guests and staff past and present will meet at noon for the official gathering. Two members of staff, Jean Luckett and Heather Othen will also be retiring after each serving 25 years.
Conservative Councillor Connie Hockley, Executive Member for Community, said: "The Tourist Information Centre is a valued asset within the community and we are very pleased they are celebrating 25 years of serving residents and visitors to Fareham."
The celebrations will continue on Saturday 16 May. There will be many local attractions represented at the Tourist Information Centre over both days, including Fort Nelson, Portchester Castle, Bursledon Brickworks, Titchfield Haven, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and Marwell Zoo. On Friday, King Henry VIII is interrupting his busy schedule, of celebrating 500 years since his Coronation, to make a visit. On Saturday Florence Nightingale will be gracing visitors us with her presence.
Over the last few months, the Tourist Information Centre has held two competitions, a photographic one for the adults and a leaflet design competition for the children. Many of the winners will be there on the Friday to receive their prizes.
