Despite severe weather conditions experienced in the Borough of Fareham council staff have worked tirelessly to ensure that the area remains as safe as possible for residents.
Core services have been maintained with the exception of refuse and recycling collections which have not been possible due to health and safety risks to staff and public.
The refuse and recycling teams and grounds maintenance staff have been redeployed to assist Hampshire County Council's Highways teams in clearing and gritting priority areas such as main precincts, pathways and sheltered housing accommodation sites.
When road conditions improve priority will be given to the collection of household refuse (green top bins). Residents are advised to place their refuse bins (green top bins) out for collection and these will be collected as soon as road and weather conditions permit. The recycling (blue top bins) and garden waste collection service are suspended until further notice. We will restore the full waste collection service as soon as possible.
There will be council staff working on to continue clearing and gritting priority areas.
Market Quay car park and Lysses car park in Fareham town centre remain closed due to dangerous icy conditions. Drivers are being redirected to Osborn Road multi-storey car park where the entrance and exit have been cleared and gritted. All other car parks are open but the public are advised to take care as surfaces are extremely slippery.
The decision whether to postpone council meetings scheduled for week commencing 11 January will be taken on the day. If you were planning to attend any meetings, please check the website for any updates before travelling.
Fareham Borough Council's Out-of-hours Emergency service will continue to operate 24/7 and can be contacted on 0800 374485.
