Fareham Borough Council waste collection teams have been able to resume a limited service today for collecting refuse (green top) bins for households on main roads in the borough. As conditions in side roads remain treacherous and pavements still icy, it has not been possible to provide the waste collection service in these areas. However if the weather continues to improve, bringing a significant thaw in the ice, we hope to increase our refuse collection service over the next week.
The message to the borough residents is:
"Green out"; "Blue in''
Where it is safe to do so; please put your green top refuse bin out and leave it out. Waste Collection teams will endeavour to collect refuse bins over the next week. Take your blue top recycling bin (and garden waste) back into its normal storage area. We will resume recycling and garden waste collections once all refuse collections have caught up with the back log.
Collecting refuse bins containing household waste is the council's priority.
Hampshire County Council Household Waste Recycling Centres are open if residents wish to take their waste to the centres in Segensworth, Port Solent or Gosport. However, surrounding roads remain icy and therefore we ask the public to approach with care.
We thank residents for their continued patience during this difficult time.
Meanwhile council staff are continuing to work with Hampshire County Council highways section, helping out where they can to remove snow and ice from the pedestrian areas, subways, footbridges and schools.
Vulnerable Person's Helpline
A helpline number has been issued for those concerned about elderly or disabled people. Contact Hampshire County Council Adult Services on 0845 603 5630. A dedicated team of specialist advisers are on hand to assess individual care needs.
Car parks
Lysses and Market Quay car parks remain closed due to the icy conditions. We are attempting to make Market Quay Car Park accessible as soon as possible. Osborn Road Multi-storey car park and all other surface car parks remain open. The public are advised to take care as surfaces are extremely slippery.
Trade waste
A limited Trade Waste collection service is being attempted today, where it is safe for us to do so.
Portchester Market
Today's market in Portchester has been cancelled.
