Mark Hoban was born and brought up in the North East of England. He is married to Fiona and their home is in Locks Heath.  Fiona is a local government officer and is a patron of the Rainbow Centre's Pot of Gold Appeal.  Mark is a graduate of the London School of Economics.

Prior to the 2001 election Mark worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers. He is a Chartered Accountant.

In 2001 Mark was elected as the Member of Parliament for Fareham. In December 2005, he was appointed, Shadow Financial Secretary to the Treasury and has responsibility within the Treasury team for the financial services sector and the taxation of small businesses. He was the Shadow Schools Minister from November 2003 until December 2005 and was a whip from July 2002.

Mark has established a high profile locally through an extensive programme of visits to local businesses, voluntary groups and schools. He regularly appears on TV and radio as well as in the Echo and the News. He also has a website www.markhoban.com

Mark has campaigned on a series of local issues, including lack of local involvement in planning, the future of the ONS office in Titchfield, transport infrastructure and Blackbrook Birthing Centre. He has used the House of Commons as a platform to voice the needs and concerns of local people on topics as diverse as crime, schools, personal debt and taxes.

Outside politics Mark is a talented cook and an avid reader of politics and history.  He and his wife Fiona enjoy travelling and have spent many holidays in France sampling the food and the wine.

Mark Hoban has been a member of the Conservative Party for about 25 years. In that time he has held office at every level of the Party from branch to area.

He was the Conservative Party Candidate in South Shields at the 1997 General Election. In the 1987 and 1992 General Elections he was PA and campaign manager, respectively, to Chris Chope in Southampton Itchen.
